Come and play in our unfettered playgrounds, let’s take a wander down the forgotten alleys of our collective imagination.

THE CREATION OF WORLDS

This workshop starts with an empty space and ends with a ‘pop-up’ reality.  Empirical in nature, this workshop package lays bare Dank’s devising methodologies and inspires students to create and develop their concept for a world-based show.  Students explore and utilise diverse devising strategies to generate material over different styles and forms, within their plans for a renewed experiential arena. This workshop works particularly well for students developing devised pieces for GCSE, A level and beyond.

PLAYING THE GAME

So much of our work is concerned with making discoveries rather than making decisions and any material we generate is always adapted by the direct interaction of our audience. This workshop explores gaming frameworks and play as a route into creating performance. Students will look at gaming mechanics both as an entry point into devising, but also as a tool with which to direct audience response and safely control space. Through exploring the ‘rules of engagement’ and ‘the evolving game’, students devise their own shared audience-performer contracts.

DANK LECTERN

To satisfy a growing demand in University Drama Departments for lectures from Immersive Theatre practitioners, Dank can now offer lectures or seminars based around our production practises, our audience engagement techniques and broader philosophical and immersive theatre theories. We can offer lectures on the following:

1. EMERGING AUDIENCES: This lecture looks at the shifting role of the audience in contemporary theatre practise, how these changes directly influence the creation of new forms of theatre, and how this has given rise to new forms of performer practise.

2. THE TRANSFORMATIVE SPACE: This lecture looks at the specific forms of creativity immersive theatre utilises and applies these identifications within a theatre history and philosophy framework. This lecture also interrogates the relationship between immersive theatre,  contemporary society and experience economies.

3. RUNNING THE SHOW: This lecture covers all logistical and production aspects of working on large scale immersive theatre experiences, and interrogates the role of the immersive theatre practitioner as director, producer and ‘dungeon master’.

The workshop will take place in your college/ university

Running time- 1-1.30 hours

Total cost: £200-£250 (plus travel for facilitator form Bristol)

“Inspiring. The idea that contemporary Immersive theatre is recreating the essence of theatrical antiquity is genuinely exciting”
